We’re so used to rectangular and square prints, that we never think about lens shape disconnect with final image.
So how a round camera lens creates a rectangular image? This wasn’t always the case.
Squares are not even natures piece of cake. Somebody just discovered a square on Mars in a landform and it caused a stir. Square is rare. In nature.
So we start with a round image.
Then we can decide later on whether we want a rectangular-portrait, landscape or round image!
In the 1880s the original Kodak prints were masked into a round image.
